The Joint Service Council for Solid Waste Management in Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate in cooperation with Birzeit University , Abu Qash Village Council and Police Directorate of Ramallah launched the first activity within the campaign "Clean Homeland", which aims to increase environmental awareness among citizens toward cleaner city and protection of the surrounding environment.
Volunteer students of the Birzeit University cleaned up the main street between Birzeit University and the village of Abu Qash, with the help of policemen they managed to stop a number of vehicles public and private ones, and students dedicated a flower and an environmental friendly cloth bag cloth to the drivers in order to encourage them not to throw trash from cars windows. The students also provided the drivers with a list of people who died out of car accidents on the road to the university to encourage drivers to be more careful on the roads and commit themselves to the speed limits.
The importance of this activity lies in the messages sent by the students to the local community which was maintaining our city clean and beautiful and that each individual in society is responsible in maintaining the cleanliness of the environment around us, in addition to commitment to traffic laws and speed limits. This activity was the first phase of the campaign "Clean homeland”.
